With Oona leaving for Europe and then college, there was no one to feed Stoney and Cowgirl on Sunday mornings. Fortunately, Lauren, mother of horsegirl Sammy, big brother Nathan and two year-old little sister Sophie, has stepped up to the plate. Happy to have an opportunity for the kids to work/play at the barn, Lauren and crew have been pitching in with the occasional weekday feed as well, making Quail Lane, pony Cowgirl, big boy Stoney (and the manure pile) all a regular and important part of their lives. Though the horses are really Sammy’s gig, they all enjoy the barn, even Sophie, who spends most of her time in the back pack.
Like all horsegirls, Sammy has a collection of toy horses, most of them plastic. In an effort to keep the sibling peace, Sophie has been allowed to accumulate her own collection of toy horses. In the last couple of weeks, she has sorted them into two categories: little horses and big horses. But it took a couple of days for Lauren to figure out that Sophie had made the interesting decision of naming all the little toy horses Cowgirl and all the big ones Stoney. I’m not quite sure what that means, but it is awfully cute.
